Christmas Celebrated with Religious Harmony

Kanajar, Dec 25: As part of Christmas (birth festival of Jesus Christ) celebrations, the Catholic community of Kanajar organized Christmas Sneha Koota (get together) at the Kanajar Sauharda Bhavan Auditorium. The program began at 5:00 PM with a prayer song by the choir youth. Rev. Fr. Dr. John Mendonca, parish priest of Lourdes Church Kanajar presided over the function. Chief guests Shri Vishwanath Bhat - main priest at Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple Kowdoor, Maulana Abdul Khadir Misbahi - main preacher at Jamiya Mosque Bailur and Rev. Fr. Valerian D'Silva from Capuchin Seminary Kattingeri were ecorted to the dais and were welcomed with bouquets.

Parish council vice-president Mr. Ignatius D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Speaking on this occasion Shri Vishwanath Bhat said that all the faiths convey the same message of peace and Hinduism, like any other religion, conveys virtues for one's life at various stages. Maulana Abdul Khadir Misbahi said Islam reveres Jesus Christ and his miracles and that Islam is a religion of peace. In his presidential speech Rev. Fr. Dr. John Mendonca said that Jesus Christ came to earth with the message of peace for all humanity.

The chief guests were honored with mementos. The choir group sung the Christmas carols on this occasion. The results of weighing the cake competition by ICYM were announced and the winner was given away the cake. Parish council secretary Mrs. Janet Menezes proposed vote of thanks. Mr R.E. Rebello compeered the program. Santa Clause had arrived at the venue and delighted the children with chocolate candies.
