Kanajar, Aug 15: The 79th Indian Independence Day was celebrated with splendor
at Lourdes English Medium School Kanajar. School correspondent Rev. Fr. Harold Pereira
hoisted the tricolor and presided over the function. Chief guests Rev. Fr. Alwyn Sequeira
and Mr. Stany Saldanha, along with Mrs. Anita Quadros, Mrs. Mable Nazareth, PTA president
Mrs. Amreen and Principal Mrs. Jasmine Pinto were present on the dais.
Principal Mrs. Jasmine Pinto delivered the welcome address that underscored the significance
of the day. The school choir then led a rendition of the National Song. The highlight of the
morning was the flag hoisting ceremony, conducted by Rev. Fr. Harold Pereira. As the tricolor
flag was raised, students and staff sang the National Anthem and Dwaja Geeta, paying tribute
to the nation.
Master Aaron Menezes of Grade 10 in his inspiring speech shared his reflections on Independence
Day. Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Alwyn Sequeira spoke on the importance of unity, courage and
responsibility. Josni of Grade 8 presented patriotic slogans. Rev. Fr. Harold Pereira in his
presidential address emphasized the importance of knowledge and values for the younger generation.
The formal ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Vinaya.
A vibrant cultural program followed at Kanajar Souharda Bhavan that showcased the diverse talents
of the students. The event featured a variety of acts including a delightful patriotic dance and
an action song by kindergarten students. Students in Grades 1 to 3 performed a Fancy dress with
dialogue, portraying national heroes, while students in Grades 4 and 5 presented a powerful
patriotic dance based on the Sindoor Operation theme. Prizes were distributed throughout the
program to students recognizing their academic and extracurricular achievements. The daylong
celebration successfully combined formal ceremonies with joyful cultural displays, creating a
memorable and inspiring event for students, staff and guests.
