Kanajar, Jul 31: Matha Maria Mahasangha (federation) of women's Self-Help Groups
from Kanajar organized "Aati'che Jevan" food festival for the women's and men's Self-Help
Groups (SHGs) that also coincided with the Federation's Decennial celebration.
A total of 211 women from 13 women's SHGs and 26 men from the men's SHG participated in the
festivities. Fr. Harold Pereira presided over the program, while Sylvia Suares, President
of Sugamya Jilla Mahila Vokkuta was the chief guest and other women leaders from District
and Taluka level were present. The past presidents were honored on this occasion of the
federation’s decennial celebration.
The women took great pride in cooking and serving traditional 'Aati' delicacies, making it
a memorable celebration and also reviving the local tradition of the month of 'Aati' or 'Ashada'
where our elders would prepare nutritious food using locally sourced plants, trees and leaves.
This event not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of our community but also highlighted
the importance of preserving traditional practices for future generations.
