Unity Octave Observed at Kanajar

Kanajar, Jan 18: The first ever ecumenical prayer meet of Unity Octave was held at Lourdes Church Kanajar on January 17, 2014. A congregation from CSI Fischer Memorial Church, Bailur led by the pastor Rev. Kishore Kumar arrived at Lourdes Church Kanajar at 5:00 pm. Rev. Fr. John Mendonca, parish priest along with a congregation of Lourdes Church welcomed the delegation and led them into the church.

Parish council Vice-president Mr. Ignatius D'Souza delivered welcome address. This was followed by readings and prayers for the unity among the followers of Jesus Christ around the world. The choir of Kanajar church sang the hymns in Kannada language.

In his message Rev. Kishore Kumar appreciated the initiative from Rev. Fr. John Mendonca in conducting the Unity Octave and invited the congregation for the prayer meet at Bailur church. Rev. Fr. John Mendonca in his message appreciated the positive response from the CSI congregation of Bailur. He called on everyone to live with love and unity.

Parish council secretary Mrs. Janet Menezes proposed vote of thanks. Later there was a socializing get-together of the congregations at the parish priest's house.

This historical ecumenical initiative was taken Rev. Fr. John Mendonca on the Christmas day earlier when he met Pastor Rev. Kishore Kumar at the CSI Fischer Memorial Church Bailur. Proposals were made at the time to collaborate in organizing the Christmas tableau during Christmas and also to hold Unity Octave prayer meets between the two churches.
