Decennial Deepavali Celebrations at Kanajar

Kanajar, Oct 26: The festival of Deepavali, "Belakina Habba" (festival of lights) was celebrated at Kanajar for the 10th consecutive year under the auspices of Shri Brahmalingeshwara Friends Kanajar. The event was celebrated with patriotism by lighting the Deepavali lamps in honor of Mother India.

The program began at 8:30 PM with welcome note delivered by Sri Pradeep Kumar. Chief guest Sri V Sunil Kumar, former MLA of Karkala, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamps that contoured the map of Mother India that was filled with tri-color. Dr Dineshchandra Hegde presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion Sri Sunil Kumar commended the work of youths in organizing the Deepavali festival at Kanajar and celebrating it in a unique way so as to preserve our cultural heritage and also to instill patriotism. He called on the youths to work for the nation so that India can shine with all her glory. In his address Sri Vikram Hegde, former president of Karkala Taluk panchayath, explained the significance of Deepavali festival. In his presidential note Dr Dineshchandra Hegde recalled presiding over the the celebrations 10 years ago and expressed his happiness to preside over the decennial celebrations. The guests of honor Sri Anthony D'Souza (former president, APMC Karkala), Sri Ramesh Shetty (president, gramapanchayath Neere-Kanajar), Sri Shekar, Sri Dayananda Hegde Parari, Smt Malini J Shetty (member, Karkala taluk panchayath) and Jithendra Shetty (President, Brahmalingeshwara Friends Kanajar) were present on the dais.

Sri Dinakar Bandari, the famous play writer who hails from Kanajar, was felicitated on this occasion for his achievement in the field of drama. Karthik Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Nithesh Shetty compeered the program.

A cultural program soon followed wherein the youth members and the children displayed their stage talents. Later a tulu play "Aaye Subage" was played by the artists of Kaupu Rangataranga, which thoroughly entertained the audience.
