Kanajar, Aug 15: The 60th anniversary of India's Independence was celebrated with
splendor at Lourdes Higher Primary School. Rev. Fr. Alwyn D'Cunha, Parish Priest, unfurled
the tricolor flag. In his address to the school assembly, Fr. Alwyn praised the virtues of
some of the greatest souls of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa in particular.
The chief guest of the program, Mr. Ignatius D'Souza, in his speech called on
the community to stay united regardless of caste, creed or religion and work
towards building a stronger nation. Rev. Fr. Denis Castelino; Rev. Fr Sunil
Menezes; Mrs Mable Nazareth, Vice President of Parish Council; Mr Sachidananda
Prabhu, member Gram Panchayath, Kanajar; Mrs Bilkis Banu were present on the dais.

Pupils Master Nikil Poojary and Ms. Akshita Naidu, gave speeches about India's struggle for Independence, recalling the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. In the post session, a colorful cultural program was presented by the school children.
