Kanajar, Feb 11: The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was celebrated today in grand
manner by the community of Kanajar. Devotees, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, began
to gather at the church from early morning to light the candles and offer prayers and
intentions to Mother Mary - the Lady of Lourdes.


The solemn Eucharistic Celebration began at 10 AM, beginning with the presentation of
the candles of honor by parish priest Rev. Fr. Alwyn D'Cunha to the pastoral council
members and other sponsors of the feast. Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, (Principal, Pompei
Collage Kirem) was the main celebrant priest. Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Valerian D'Souza, Parish
Priest of Moodubelle and the Episcopal Vicar for Udupi zone was the other chief priest.
Many guest priests were also present in the Eucharistic Celebration.
Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, who is well known for composing of devotional music albums,
was honored after the mass by Fr. Alwyn D'Cunha in recognition of his wonderful gift to
our parish - a beautiful musical hymn dedicated to our Lady of Lourdes. Fr. Alwyn D'Cunha,
the Parish Priest, thanked all the people and the devotees for making this feast meaningful
and fruitful. The choir master Dn. Denzil Crasta had conducted a melodious choir.

Vespers Day Eve
Kanajar, Feb 10: Vespers day was celebrated at Lourdes Church with all grandeur.
The celebrations began around 6:30 PM in the evening with the candle lit
procession by people singing Marian hymns.

Rev. Fr. George D'Souza (Manager, Kodialbail Press Mangalore), was the main celebrant of the ceremonial mass. Priests from Karkala Deanery and guests priests had joined in the Eucharistic celebration. As per the customs of the Vespers day, the sermon was preached in Tulu language. In his homily, Fr. George explained the importance of Virgin Mary in Catholic faith and her role in the prayers and needs of the believers. Dn. Denzil Crasta conducted the choir wonderfully. The Parish Priest Fr. Alwyn D'Cunha thanked all the devotees and the guest priests. After the mass, the event ended with a spectacular display of fire works.
