Lawrence D'Souza Elected as President of KWAK

Kuwait, Jan 20: Kanajar Welfare Association-Kuwait (KWAK) also known as Lourdes Zamath, an Organization of Kanajarians living in Kuwait held its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on Sunday the 20th January, 2002, at the Village Inn Restaurant, Kuwait under the Chairmanship of KWA International Convener and outgoing President of KWAK, Mr. Lawrence Saldanha.

The meeting commenced with a prayer by Mrs Jecintha Pinto followed by an update by the Convener on the progress in development projects in Kanajar mainly Lourdes Healthcare Center (LHC) Project. In his brief address to members, Mr. Lawrence Saldanha, who recently visited Kanajar to assess the progress of LHC, informed that the project is moving ahead of schedule.

Mr. Lawrence D'Souza, the Vice-President of KWAK thanked the members for the their support in collecting memberships, funds and all other activities due to which KWAK has been able to achieve it's milestones rightly acclaimed by the Community Worldwide. The Secretary, Walter Lobo read the minutes of previous meetings and Mr. Dennis D'Souza, the Treasurer presented up to date accounts.

As part of the AGM, elections were held for various posts for the second 2- year term. Mr. Lawrence D'Souza, Kanajar born and brought up, the outgoing Vice-President, a soft spoken quiet social worker, who spends most of his holidays visiting patients in hospitals and also regards very highly about his birth Parish and its Patron Our Lady of Lourdes back home was unanimously elected as the new President of KWAK.

It was decided that the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes will be celebrated on the 17th of February at the same venue. The newly elected President thanked members and sought their continued support as also from the Convener. The meeting concluded with a prayer by Mrs. Jecintha Pinto.
