Aloysius D'Souza elected new President of KWAE

Dubai, Feb 13: Kanajarians association called for its Annual General Body Meeting at Shezan Restaurant, Karama followed by an election where Aloysius D'Souza was elected as the new President of KWAE. Also elected were Ivan D'Souza as General Secretary and Vijay Barboza as Treasurer.

The KWAE association in the Emirates is among the leading Catholic associations in the Gulf, which is known for its charitable work in their homeland and off late their contributions at the diocesan level too.

The meeting started at 12.00 noon with a prayer by Thomas Sequeira, a senior member of the association. After the prayer, Mr. Sequeira requested the committee members to preside over and then the committee led by Mr. Thomas Saldanha (outgoing President) presented their annual report detailing various activities held last year and their contributions towards worthy causes. Their recent contribution of Rs. 75,000 towards the "Divine Call Centre", Mulky founded by Fr. Jerry Sequeira is yet another example of their ongoing efforts for the community development. The President then thanked his committee members for their selfless efforts throughout the year and wished them blessings from Our Lady of Lourdes.

In the second part of the meeting, the committee announced for fresh elections for the year 2004 and Mr. Sequeira agreed to carry out this task in a most democratic and professional manner. Although there were several nominations for various posts, Mr. Sequeira then requested the nominees to elect the most appropriate candidates to represent the associations. The meeting ended with a buffet lunch prepared by Shezan Restaurant followed by a Bingo nicely conducted by Vijay & co. Edsen, Verrel & Dalia entertained the audience with their melodious Konkani songs and the new committee decided to meet in the next few days to chalk out KWAE's plans for the year 2004.
