Kuwait, Oct 06: For the third year in a row, Kanajar Welfare Association, Kuwait (KWAK) organized its annual get-together open to all Mangaloreans on Friday the 3rd October at Mishref Gardens in Kuwait. The event was informally kicked off at 10AM with a mouth-watering breakfast solely sponsored and organized by Inas Menezes, one of the committee members of KWAK.
The formal program commenced at 11AM with the reciting of prayer by Astra Saldanha followed by a touching welcome by none other than the dynamic President of KWAK, Lawrence D'Souza Kapadi (Kanajar). The Chief Guests of the event, Fr. J.B Crasta Vicar Ward of Kundapur, who was on transit visit to Kuwait on his way back from Germany and Mrs. Nora Charles, a well-wisher of KWAK and Mr. Pascal Pinto, President of KCWA were then felicitated with a bouquet. In his brief address to the gathering, Fr. Crasta appreciated Kanajarians' efforts in serving the community through developmental projects with a particular mention to the Rs1-Crore Lourdes Hospital project.
On the games front, while Committee members Rose Mary, Hilda D'Souza, Jecintha Pinto, Reeda Saldanha,
Elveera Andrade, Rita Menezes, Flavy Menezes organized fun-filled games for children in 4 age groups,
Robert D'Souza and Ivan Menezes took charge of the Shot put event for men and women.
Fr. Melwin D'Cunha, beloved Parish Priest of Mangaloreans in Kuwait arriving at around noon after his Friday Services was welcomed with an affectionate applause from the crowd. Lawrence Saldanha, Convener of KWA and Chairman of Lourdes Hospital, then updated the gathering about the progress of the Hospital till date, highlighting the ever-increasing number of people from the region availing the facility for OPD to major surgical operations. The latest factual statistics recording 15 minor to major operations in the hospital in a single month of September caught the crowd with huge surprise. He also went on to announce the commencement of 2nd phase of the project namely The Nursing College from June 2004 to the huge applause from people. A formal approval for the project is to be obtained in the Board of Directors meeting to be held in Dubai on 24th October 2003. Dennis D'Souza with the help of some volunteers, handled the serving of delicious Mangalorean flavor food supplied by none other than our own (Johnny Suratkal) Tip Top Caterers. Under the administrative assistance of Inas Menezes, the popular Konkani Artist Lancy Rodriques conducted the housie. A friendly Kabaddi match followed by traditional "Dori Vodchem" concluded the event. Scorpions Band headed by James Salvodore D'Souza provided the DJ/Music. Stephen Machado and Rudy D'Souza ably compered the event and KWAK General Secretary Jecintha Pinto proposed vote of thanks.
