Dubai Apr 26: The variety entertainment competition organized by St. Mary's Konkani Community, Dubai on the 26th April 2003 at the Emirates English Speaking School, flabbergasted the audience with the wonderful performance of almost all the participants. It was a cool Friday morning when all the Group / Zamath leaders met at the early hours, an invitation to prove their cultural abilities.
Honor for sponsors & Judges
Miss. Asha Rodrigues, opened the show by introducing herself as the MC followed by lighting
of the lamp, a tradition symbolizing our culture. Mr. Kishore Noronha and Ms. Marina Menezes
then introduced the sponsors and the judges who took charge of evaluating the abilities of budding
talents. The sponsors mainly, Fortuna Engineering LLC, Pumpy's Restaurant, Amasco, Ahmed Décor,
CMC, Merit Freight Systems LLC, Cosmos Flowers, Falcon spring water and Mr. Sunil Nazareth without
whose support this event wouldn't have been so successful, the Management committee admits.
The lot was carried out in the morning and the 25-minute slot for every group/zamath was decided resulting in Byndoor Zamath being the first one to show their talents. It then followed by a non-competing group "Novem Jerusalem" with their incomparable talents of showcasing real life and emotional plays. The show went on with groups performing one after the other like "Belle Vision" followed by "Pokri Pernalites", Mangalore Friends, Lourdes Zamath Kanajar, Pamboor Association, Emirates Pangalites and finally Puttur Parishioners.
The timings for each group was strictly observed by the volunteers and the judges and it was one of the criterion for judging the group performance. Based on the evaluations criterion set by the management committee in co-ordination with the judges, Presentation, Originality and Creativity were given utmost importance throughout. Needless to say, the judgment went full in favor of Pamboor Association for their superb piece of work enacting an age-old profession of a farmer & his family. The originality and the creative art design were in addition to their self-composed songs recorded by the members themselves. Second in place were "Pokri Pernalites" who put up a brilliant show as far as originality is concerned and the performance by Mr. Correa and his team was worth watching and brilliant. Mr. Donny Correa was later awarded "Best M.C" for his outstanding presenting abilities. The third prize went to Mangalore Friends
Kanajar Zamat displayed a skit on a garage where an illiterate employer (Garage Owner) interviewed a literate candidate.
With Kanajarian's performance the morning session came to an end where the organizers conducted
Housie-Housie game where the winners took away valuable gift hampers. Afternoon lunch was served at 1-30 pm,
catered by Pumpy's Restaurant with a stuffy luncheon box and kids meal separately packed and served.
During lunch, housie housie was played and people won lots of attractive prizes.
The program got over at 5.00 pm with Mr. Vinod Tauro proposing vote of thanks to a huge applauds of the audience.
St. Mary's Konkani Community members led by the Spiritual Director Fr. Cyprian D'souza and SMKC coordinator Mr. Noel Mascarenhas organized this beautiful show with the support of sponsors.
