Kanajar, Nov 12: The festival of Deepavali, "Belakina Habba" (festival
of lights) was celebrated at Kanajar for the 14th consecutive year under the
auspices of Shree Brahmalingeshwara Friends Kanajar. The event was celebrated
with patriotism by lighting the Deepavali lamps in honor of Mother India.
The program began with welcome note delivered by Nikil Shetty. Sri
Shivaprasad Hegde presided over the function and the event was inaugurated by
lighting the lamps that contoured the map of Mother India that was filled with
tri-color. Speaking on the occasion chief guest and national awardee Kodibettu
school head master Sri Vasantha Shetty spoke about the Deepavali traditions and
its significance in life. Kapu Sri Leeladhara Shetty, panchayath president Sri
Sadananda Prabhu, Shree Brahmaligeshwara temple managing trustee Sri Sudheer
Hegde, Sri Dayananda Hegde, honarary president Sri Vikram Hegde and president
Ashok Poojari were present on the dais.
Sri Prakash Shetty, who had donated his kidney to his sister, was honored on
this occasion. Play artist Sri Prasanna Shetty was felicitated. Ramesh Kallotte
compeered the program.
A cultural program soon followed wherein the youth members and the children displayed
their stage talents. Later a Tulu comedy play "Indrali Junction" was played
by the Kapu Rangataranga artists, which thoroughly entertained the audience.
