Kuwait, Apr 18: "God created man as one single community and the man divided it into several communities based on religion, culture, language etc. However, the same man has also tried to bring back divided communities together through Art such as 'Dance', which breaks open all man-made barriers", said Lawrence Saldanha, president of Kanajar Welfare Association Kuwait in his welcome speech on the occasion of KIDCHAMP 2008 dance competition Grand Finale held at the Mesrah Hawalli Auditorium on Friday 18th April 2008.
As anticipated, KIDCHAMP 2008 was a huge success with capacity 700 crowd thronging to reserve their seat for the first of its kind event to be organized by any recognized organization. Following an elimination round organized at Indian Community School Salmiya earlier from where 11 finalists were selected, the Grand Finale attracted enthusiastic audience to watch the well contested competition. Dr. Francis Barboza, who was the Chief Guest and Judge for the event was the main attraction of the event. Lawrence D'Souza ex-president of KWAK and Vijay Barboza were special invitees for the event who flew in from Dubai.
The program started at 6:00 PM with the welcome dance by Vijay Barboza who was
specially flown in from Dubai for the event followed by lighting of the Lamp by
Judges Dr. Francis Barboza, Director of Sathyaradana Arts USA, Sr. Mary Darshini,
Mrs. Nupur Sharma, and Mrs. Lekha Ramachandran along with the President Mr.
Lawrence Saldanha. Meanwhile, Fr. Melwin D'Cunha, Parish Priest of Holy Family
Cathedral gave away merit certificates to following members' children for
academic & extra curricular activities:

First category of contestants under KIDCHAMP 2008 Grand Finale - Classical
Championship took to the stage with their superb performances to the full
satisfaction of the audience. Then came the turn of Junior Champions with their
mind blowing performances for the loud applause of the Crowd and finally came
senior champions who at their best were equally entertaining.
Glen Saldanha, a singing sensation in western music, Dillon Noronha, a known
singer in Hindi Music and Rhea Pereira an upcoming singer rendered their
melodious voices to the music of Pop Band, Deep Impact headed by Ronnie D'Souza.
Compeer Lloyd was at his best in entertaining the crowd with his seamless
expressions and rib-tickling jokes.
Ballerines and Nach Balliye dance troupes performed scintillating dances.
Dr. Barboza being a Veteran and Innovator of Bharatanatyam Dance in religious forms and a Kanajarian himself was honored for his outstanding service with a shawl, memento and fruit basket and was conferred with the title "Nritya Samrat". Dr. Barboza responded with profound gratitude for the honor extended by his fellow Kanajarians living in Kuwait and wished them success in their services for the community.
The finals of Dance contest in classical, junior and senior
categories were held. The special attraction to the event came from Dr. Francis Barboza, whose
performance truly mesmerized the crowd. The audience was also entertained with
some superb music by band "Deep Impact" with singing sensations Glen Saldanha,
Dillon Noronha and Rhea Pereira joining them. Winners of KIDCHAMP 2008 are:

Juniors - Rovita D'Souza
Seniors - Melissa Fernandes
Dr. Francis Barboza presented the awards to winners and Rose Mendonca proposed
vote of thanks. The event was very well compered by Lloyd.

Dear Kanajarians,
Wonderful to see you all online and read about our lush green and
talented Kanajar. More so to know such beautiful events are organized by us.
If somebody asked me what is best place that you would like to be on your
holiday? I would invariable say - Kanajar. Because that is the first place of my life.
Specially I am proud that my own batchmates and schoolmates now doing wonderful
cultural development abroad with modern cultural programes and Indian Traditions
with bond of love and association.
I must reiterate that this is a Golden event in the history of Kanajar Welfare
Association - Kuwait. My heartfelt thanks to all the office bearers and
dignitaries who made this a memorable event.
I pray for & seek God's choicest blessings on you that you may continue your good works.
